Dipika Dhakal
Dipika is 23 years old. She lives with her husband, house mother and her three daughters who are six, five and one years old. Her husband works in a soap factory. Dipika spends her days housekeeping, taking care of the children, working in the fields and with the animals. The family owns a large area of land where she grows lettuce, beans, carrots, parsnips and pumpkins.
Dipika became involved with the cooperative after hearing stories from other members of the cooperative. Four years ago she became a member of the cooperative and is now also a member of the committee board.
Dipika has a savings account and also took out a loan to buy a cow. Now she sells milk and earns money from that. She has been a model entrepreneur for women in Jitpur Phedi women cooperative.
Dipika attended several training sessions. She attended agricultural training and learned how to improve the fields and produce fertilizer herself. She also learned about irrigation and toxins and how to prevent weeds. She also learned about goat breeding, for selling.
Dipika is an intelligent, hard working and ambitious woman. She wishes to open her own vegetable shop so she wants to learn how to grow different and new vegetables. She also wants to learn how to make dolls and stuffed animals to sell, and to make ‘moda’ (Nepali stools). She is also eager to learn English.
